Born in Cadillac, Michigan, Robert Reed became a painter who settled in San Antonio, Texas. He was a student at the University of Texas where his art teachers were Frederick Taubes, Xavier Gonzales, Jacob Getlar Smith and Mina Citron.
Memberships included Texas Watercolor Society, Texas Fine Art Association and Craft Guild of San Antonio.
Exhibitions: San Antonio Fine Artists, 1946-1955; Texas Fine Arts Association, 1947 to 1955; Texas Watercolor Society, 1949 to 1955; and River Art Group, 1951 and 1955.
In 1949, Robert Reed was voted the Artist of the Year by the San Antonio Art League Museum
