On the back it says
Born in Michigan 1917
Moved to Orange County (California)
In World War 2 he was an officer in the elite Ski Troops later known as the 10th Mountain Division. He also served in the Korean conflict.
He became a cartoonist in 1947 and he and his wife Jane lived in Corona Del Mar, CA until the end of 1968 when he retired and moved to Carmel California to do serious painting.
McFarren is self-taught and worked in oils and acrylics. He is constantly on trips from ocean to the Mexican border in search of new and interesting material. He has done seascapes and landscapes, but is best known for his paintings of the rapidly disappearing old western barns and farm houses, perhaps reminiscent of his boyhood days in the country.
