  • Condition: Great 1940's vintage oil painting of an English Pointer Hunting Dog in the woods - loads of personality! This painting is DISTRESSED. It has been carefully removed from stretchers at some point. The surface of the painting shows considerable grime and dirt from age and storage. There are numerous places where small chips of the painted surface have been lost, as shown in the photos. However, the remaining surface appears to be pretty stable, and the paint is not noticeably flaking. The painting is a good candidate for conservation and/or restoration. There is some staining on the reverse (as shown) suggesting that the canvas was damp or wet at some point, but the canvas is not deteriorated and is complete. No visible mold. It could readily be re-stretched. No cuts, tears or holes in the body of the work. Not signed, no frame or stretchers.

    This painting is DISTRESSED and has some significant damage! But it is a great piece that may deserve some conservation, cleaning and framing
