  • Condition: Good-Very Good overall antique cond: Only a few slight, minor to at times mod surface abrasions, subsequent oxidation & specks of enml pnt loss, mar this otherwise extraordinary mid-late 19th c Latin American (Mexico) antique retablo oil painting of a 'Santo' on tin sheet, depicting the winged archangel Raphael, wearing a white, laced trimmed wrap (lower skirt) clutching a single fish by a string & gently holding a long staff, w/a cross at its apex. In very well-pres overall antique cond, considering it's now nearly, if not, 125-155 yrs old. The retablo painting is still extraordinarily bright, w/fairly well-pres surfaces & almost fully saturated, vivid, bright & nearly undiminished orig oil paint. Only the fairly lmtd surface abrasions & spotty subsequent oxidation, mar this otherwise extraordinary antique Latin American figurative work. The influence of Christianity, as brought by the Spaniards to Latin America & easily recognizable Catholic graphic iconography, are evident. Killer.
