    Additional Comments & Reference:
I am very pleased to have the opportunity to offer this colorful abstract acrylic painting by Salik Seville! Rob Harris, anchor on WHAS TV 11 simply wrote: "Salik Seville is an incredible artist...", on Twitter.
Seville's paintings have been exhibited several times and there have been many articles written about him and his art.
Seville's paintings are inspirational. He uses his art to showcase what he's been going through, and offer others going through similar situations the hope they need to push through.
"I just want to inspire others and do my part," Seville says. "You might be having hard times or come from a hard background, but you should always think about what you can do to help people."
    He further stated: "
Fresh food is a major issue for the homeless, Seville said. “Your health starts to fail when you can’t afford to buy and prepare fresh food,” Seville said.
Taking a step back, some artists do attention grabbing stunts for the sole purpose of selling their art.
However, Seville is not another one of these artists!  H
e practices what he preaches... and really believes in using his art to help others!
In 2017, and at several other points during his career, he has stated the following or similar: "
If you are in the area, come check out the art and if you see something you like, all you need is a bag of fresh food and a bag of hygiene products, i.e., hand towels, deodorant, etc... to acquire a piece of art. There’s no limit. Meals on wheels and health care for homeless veterans will receive the food, and Spokane county veterans will receive the hygiene products. I will also have some paintings for sale to help the YWCA at the library here in downtown Spokane."
Sounds like something a very wealthy person or tycoon would say, right? No, you're wrong! In 2012, Seville
experienced a traumatizing mugging at gunpoint in his hometown of Memphis. Moving almost as far away as possible in an effort to leave the incident behind him, he ended up in Spokane, Washington, where he became homeless for the first time. As a Navy veteran, he reached out to Health Care for Homeless Veterans. He credits the agency for helping him get back on his feet.
However, Seville remained homeless for the next 5 years. Fortunately, his
housing is stable for now, but he still struggles to put food on the table. To purchase art supplies, he regularly sells his plasma.
During this time he has had to overcome some stereotypes. Audrey Overstreet, for spokesman.com wrote: "
Artist Salik Seville has been battling stereotypes all his life, even when it comes to his own art.
“People would never identify me with that,” Seville said, pointing to the dozens of vibrant canvases he spent countless hours painting and hanging in his home in East Central Spokane. “I got people around here, who have asked me, ‘Who helped you make those?’ ”
Why would people question whether he creates and paints on his own?
“I think it’s a combination of me being a black man and a big black man,” Seville said. “It kind of frightens people … I just want them to see the work.”
There are several other artists that overcame hardships before they became successful, such as Modigliani trading his paintings for food.
Georgia O'Keefe dealt with severe anxiety, before discovering a new sense of inspiration.
Vincent van Gogh sold only but one painting during his lifetime yet went on to leave a legacy as one of the most influential figures in the history of Western art.
Emily Dickinson published fewer than 12 poems while living, but her mastery of expression solidified her as one of the most important poets in American literature.
Dr. Seuss's To Think / I Saw it on Mulberry Street was turned down 27 times. Since Seuss's death in 1991, 600,000,000 copies of his books have been sold.
Unlike many of these great names mentioned above, I believe the biggest reason why most of you are not familiar with Salik Seville's work is because his motivation for doing art is not about promoting himself; selling 600 million books, or becoming known as the "Father of Abstract Art". It is about creating art to help others and Seville truly brings a new  and fresh meaning to the old phrase "Art for Art's Sake... and how many artists have you ever heard of that would sell their plasma for art supplies, so the artist can use their paintings' proceeds to help others?
Good Luck becoming the winning bidder of this painting by Salik Seville- a big man with even a bigger heart!
