''Right away I loved the feeling of working with silk and ink, and that sense of wonder never seems to fade...''  ~ Peter Mars
For 30 years showcased the work of the city’s most vibrant, quirky, and thought-provoking artists.
Its experts helped clients frame prized artworks and create eye-popping installations of their own. And the gallery itself was the site of countless fundraisers and festive events.
Co-founders Peter Mars, Barbie Gazdik, and James Turk opened Mars Gallery in 1988, carving out a home in a 19th century all-brick timber loft on Fulton Market in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. While other commercial businesses filled the streets by day, artists and creatives began to set up shop, creating a vibrant community and a legendary nightlife scene. Mars Gallery became home to a weird and wonderful variety of art and artists, including contemporary, modern pop art, abstract, figurative and more. Customers looked to the gallery not just for fine art, but also for custom framing services, professional art installation, a silkscreen studio, and an events space.
"Lots to See"  15x22.5 inches, hand pulled silk screen on Studio heavyweight archival paper.

Mars artworks often incorporate the use of silkscreen aka serigraphy (from the French words for "silk writing") where ink is pulled across a piece of silk fabric onto various mediums including wood, cardboard, and paper.  His works form a running commentary on global popular culture.
This is a Mars studio artifact:
Generally these are unusual works on paper or cardboard found hidden away in the studio. Experimental works, extras, odds and ends, may be scuffed, bent, nicked or torn. Fabulous treasures found tucked away in the back of racks, drawers and flat files, or wrapped up in dusty bubble wrap. Wonderful opportunities for you to find hidden gems.
