Original Watercolor"
The Hidden Masks"
by
James McNeill Mesple
2014
This is an original watercolor by the well known artist James McNeill Mesple
If you look close at this painting in the upper right corner are two faces hidden away in
the darkness. If you look again close up you will see that this is not only an original painting but it is also
part collage from Mesple's drawings and it is also partially rendered in ink as well as painted in watercolor and gouache.
The two faces are not really looking at each other but one appears to be
full of anger and turmoil as the other face or mask appears to be aloof from this angst.
This is one of Mesples' most interesting works as he did not usually hide images away
so the viewer cannot see them unless the piece is turned upside down.
Painting comes un-matted as it was originally purchased
Painting is done on watercolor board and is signed in lower right corner
Image area measures approximately: 5" W x 6 1/2" H
Whole piece measures
: 6" W x 7 1/2" H
Areas of this original watercolor are enhanced throughout in ink
