The fine item you are considering is anOriginal Large Noriko Yamamoto Wash Drawing Painting Framed. This beautiful work by renown artist Noriko Yamamoto measures approximately 21” by 17” and is framed and under glass. Here’s a small bio of the artist: “Noriko Yamamoto''s familly moved to Tokyo soon after she was born, resided in Honolulu between 1935 and 1941, and returned to Tokyo in 1941. Her initial art training in calligraphy was given by her father. An interest in oil painting began when she moved to Honolullu, and her serious art studies commenced at California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) in 1952, continuing through 1957. There she acquired her BA and MFA in painting. She continued graduate studies at Mills College in 1958. Yamamoto was influenced by teachers Richard Diebenkorn, Leon Goldin, Nathan Oliviera and Afro. In 1955 she studied under and became close friends with Sabro Hasegawa. Upon Hasegawa''s untimely death, Yamamoto was chosen to take over a class he had been teaching at CCAC. In the late 1950's and early 1960's she worked in a variety of abstract styles, often emphasizing gestural techniques and sometimes incorporating collage. The range of styles of those years--from "action painting" complete with drips and spatters, to reticient geometric arrangements of circles and squares in white on unprimed canvas--demonstrates Yamamoto's searching spontaneous, and non-doctrinaire approach to imagery. Yamamoto has stated that her gestural abstractions derive in good measure from her intensive early training in calligraphy and her respect for the old Zen masters.
