This incredible piece of work was created by Lew Hudnall. I couldn
’
t find any definitive biographic data, but it seemed he was from Ohio and worked in the 1960’s-70’s era. Each of his pieces look like folk art from the 18th or 19th century. He carefully chose the images and words he paints, the colors he uses, and the objects he paints on to make it look as authentic as possible. My research turned up other paintings by him on bentwood storage boxes, tin boxes, cupboards, benches, wood boards, etc.
This particular painting is on an old cutting board
. The top left edge of the board had a 7 3/4” long piece crack off and was glued back. Based on the way it was painted, this happened before it was painted. The board shows a lof of wear and cracks from it’s original use as a cutting board. As for flaws after it was painted, there are some small paint chips and scratches on the front, around the edges, and a wood chip missing near the bottom left corner.
