On auction, we have an original watercolor painting by James McBey. This view of Gourdon Harbour is a between the wars working scene of McBey's home in Aberdeen, Scotland. It is signed on the lower right "McBey Gourdon 20 November 1931". The back has a light pencil sketch of the harbor with "Gourdon Harbour" written twice in pencil. On thick textured paper, this measures 13" X 20".
About the artist: James McBey (1883-1959) was a Scottish painter and etcher. He was a self-taught artist whose works are highly collectible today.
I believe this is in very good condition. The painting is bold and clear. There is a single spot on the top left in the sky. This paper has been handled and has some light wrinkles. As I am not an expert on art, please see my photographs for more description.
This is from my friend, an avid art collector for decades. Now, with some advice from his family, he must admit he has more paintings than walls to display them. He is looking forward to having his treasures viewed and enjoyed in a new home.
I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping.
