GARY WHITE DEER "UNTITLED" ACRYLIC ON CANVAS VINTAGE TUCSON ESTATE

Description

From a Tucson estate is this Gary White Deer original acrylic on canvas, a spiritually symbolic untitled work from fairly early in his career. The image is signed "(copyright logo) / Gary White Deer" to lower right in a typical manner for this artist. There is an gallery or exhibition inventory card to verso with "146. Artist: Gary White Deer / Title: Untitled / Medium: Acrylic on canvas / Image size: 10X8 / Framed / Signed / Current Value: 0.00" - that would have been from sometime in the 1980's. Waylon Gary White Deer (1950-) is a Choctaw artist, known as a painter and as a former professor of Choctaw Studies at Bacone College in Oklahoma. Gary attended the Institute of American Indian Arts where he studied with Fritz Scholder. He has won 1st Prize at the Minneapolis Indian market and Best of Show at the American Indian Exposition - his works have been exhibited at the American Embassy in Ireland, at the Irish Arts Center in New York, and at the Southern Plains Museum.  Condition is quite good with a subtle aura of time and long display on a wall. The artwork is well adhered to the canvas and appears nicely preserved - I see no missing paint or any subsequent restorations. There is still a small amount of accrued dust from display along the opening of the frame that I have not cleaned off, which I'm mentioning simply for accuracy. There is an ancient water stain at the upper left corner of the canvas verso only - I'm not sure what this is from, and it has absolutely no visible impact the artwork. The mid century or so oak frame is also in good shape - it can go right on a wall or switch it out to suit, your choice. I am nitpicking for the obsessive here. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Framed image size is about 8 5/8 in. vertical and 7 1/2 in. horizontal (stretched canvas is a standard 10 in. vertical and 8 in. horizontal). Frame size is about 13 7/8 in. vertical and 11 7/8 in. horizontal. If you already know what this is, or simply wish a single meaningful improvement to a wall in your home, this will have great meaning for you.
