This watercolor was reportedly done by an artist who took the image from a black & white image published in an Atlanta newspaper published sometime during 1863 or thereabouts. The image has become somewhat brittle and has a small tear from years of not being mounted more properly in a way that might have protected it better from the ravages of time. The tear does not show and can easily be repaired if one wanted to restore the painting, but it really isn't necessary-remounting it would make the tear disappear. It has lost little of its color, however and probably should be re-mounted in a more protective manner. Because of its fragile condition I have not taken it apart to see if it was signed and by whom. I have no doubt of its age.
