Auctioning a unique tempera and oil on canvas painting, depicting dream-like landscape, signed Yves Tanguy in the lower margin. The artwork is marked, labeled and stamped on verso, these are presumably references to the previous collection. The painting is stretched on the original stretcher, some common aging of the media can be noticed. Size of the present painting is 25.2 x 30.0 cm.
Tanguy painted timeless, dreamlike landscapes and his forms were completely invented, with no reference to reality. He often depicted groups of imaginary objects that resemble marine invertebrates or sculpturesque rock formations. He painted these ambiguous forms with painstaking detail and set them in barren, brightly lit landscapes that have an infinite horizon.
The artwork comes documented, the documents which come together with the artwork are COA, registration at National Fine Arts Registry, transfer of registry details to the new owner and transfer of ownership, the artwork is documented and described as attributable to the artist and is offered as such, as-is.
