Description -
Pair of miniature portrait paintings of a lady and gentleman. Superb color and detail to the artwork with the gentleman being signed and dated 1842 (signed and dated works by Miller are scarce). The pair includes William Millers trade card which is a nice addition. The portrait of lady is unsigned, however on the reverse of his trade card it is written - put card in lady frame. The artist William H. Miller (New York 1836-1860) was a native of Britain who arrived in New York City circa 1836. He advertised as a portrait and miniature painter. While working in partnership with William Hillyer and Stephen Krauss from 1846-1860, they exhibited at the American Institute. There is a miniature by Miller & Hillyer is in the collection of the New York Historical Society and the R. W. Norton Art Gallery houses Miller’s portrait of president William Henry Harrison.

Size -
One is oval and one is rectangle shape, however they both measure approximately 2 + 5/8 inches by 2 + 1/8 inches for the visible area without border or frame. The frames measuring 6 inches by 5 + 5/8 inches
Condition -
Age appropriate, frames have some wear, see photos for compete assessment.
