  • European Modernist fine art: European Post-Impressionist cityscapes
  • Region of Origin: Europe
  • Artist: S. Chaput or S. Chulet (French or Belgian)
  • Condition: Good-Very Good overall vint cond: For sale is this wonderful, linear driven, period, Post-Impressionist/early Modernist W/C landscape painting of a European cityscape, featuring a city st, lined w/antique, gambrel, mansard roofed lg apt bldgs. The orig work of art is a W/C painting which heavily relies on black line & its energetic, gestural, highly kinetic application of paint to describe the scene before the artist, most likely done on scene & 'en plein aire.' The linear W/C or painted drawing is then infused w/episodes of olive green, burnt sienna brown & a fleshy, flesh colored wash. The work's fairly clearly, although unfortunately somewhat illegibly signed in graphite 'S. Chaput' or 'S. Chulet' in the lower right corner of the pictorial field. The work has an unbroken back brown dust cover & a metallic gold NJ picture framer's label. The work is under glass & hasn't been removed. Great visual energy, lyrical movement & clairvoyance. Most likely Belgian or French. Very beautiful.
