Beautiful Orig Watercolor Painting WWI Soldier in Trench Uniform Signed & Framed

For auction is a beautifully rendered watercolor painting of a soldier in trench uniform. Resigned expression and posture. I am not sure of the nationality or rank - perhaps a French pioneer soldier with crossed axes insignia on the shoulder?
The painting is signed lower left, but I am not able to identify the signature or artist. It is a very well done piece, obviously by an accomplished artist.
The painting measures approximately 9 1/2" by 6 1/2" framed, and is rendered on toothy paper, which has been adhered to paper board. The back of the board bears the name "Sudbury", as shown.
The paper was folded (likely mailed or carried by the artist) and has slight creases, as shown. The paper has become a bit yellowed with age. The painting is housed under glass, in it's original, simple wood frame. (Note that if you prefer the painting packed away from the glass - I would be happy to accommodate)
